Mark Zuckerberg’s sister officially joins Kleiner Perkins along with Flipboard CTO Eric Feng

Venture firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers has brought in a slew of new hires (and made some promotions) to its investment team, including the addition of alumni Eric Feng. Other notables include naming Arielle Zuckerberg associate partner — many may recognize her as the sister of Facebook Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg, but she’s cut her teeth as a product manager at Wildfire/Google and also Humin.

In a published letter to the firm’s Limited Partners, KPCB says that the new additions help it accomplish its goal of bringing on new talent to its partnership. Over the past few years, there has been a few partners that have left the firm, including Matt Murphy, the partner who fired Ellen Pao, and Chi-Hua Chien.

Feng’s hiring gives KPCB a new managing member of its venture team. His joining is very much like a homecoming as he previously was a firm partner working on the consumer and sustainability venture teams. Previously he was the chief technology and head of strategy for Flipboard, and also the founding CTO of Hulu.

Wen Hsieh will be joining Feng in a similar role after earning himself a promotion. He’s been with the company since 2006 where he worked on enterprise infrastructure, digital hardware, Internet of Things solutions, drones, semiconductors, and sustainable technologies.

As for KPCB’s associate partners, the firm has named Zuckerberg to work on its venture team where she’ll focus on consumer tech. Her name had been reported in the news last month by TechCrunch. In addition to Zuckerberg, Square’s Swati Mylavarapu joins the team where she’ll focus on digital health and consumer tech, along with Tencent’s Muzzammil Zaveri who will work on consumer and enterprise. All three had been previously named by partner John Doerr at the TechCrunch Disrupt conference.

With respect to its digital growth team, Goldman Sachs’ Alexander Krey and Dino Becirovic have joined KPCB to help run the fund with $1.8 billion under management.

Last, but not least, KPCB Edge, the newly created seed stage initiative, has new people helping to run it. Joining firm partner Mike Abbott and Anjey Midha (who founded and managed the Dorm Room Fund) are former KPCB Fellow Roneil Rumberg and ex-Googler Ruby Lee.

So for those of you keeping track at home: just in this announcement alone, KPCB has added three new female partners to its ranks. Why is this significant? Read this.
